GRAD programs:
Faculty Recruitment/Retention
When Dr. Yvonne
Caldera, PhD, College of Human Sciences, Human Development and Family
Studies Department, and Dr. Joaquin Borrego, PhD, College of Arts
& Sciences, Department of Psychology, needed subjects for their
research on Mexican American families, they turned to Raiders Rojos
for assistance.
Through the
creative methods and community ties of the organization, both were
able to secure the families needed for their research.
The Raiders
Rojos playland was erected at Jamaicas, (church bazaars) and fall
festivals to attract children in the ages needed for their research.
Dr. Caldera was able to secure the 160 families needed for her research
on childcare practices of Mexican-American families. Dr. Borrego
was able to secure the 100 families needed for his research on the
disciplinary practices used on children of families where at least
one parent was Hispanic.

Raiders Rojos
assisted with bringing media attention to their valuable research
and economic impact on the community. For the complete story see
the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal article indicated below:

Various departments
continue to utilize Raiders Rojos as a resource especially in outreach
to the Hispanic community amd to assist with the recruitment of
Hispanic faculty candidates visiting the campus.
