The 2006 Hispanic Convocation was held on May 11, 2006 in the Student Union Red Raider Ballroom. Over five hundred gathered to honor the graduates in a very special ceremony complete with the musical contributions of Mariachi Nueva Generacion and Fiesta del Sol Ballet Folklorico. Dr. Juan Munoz,Special Assistant to the President spoke on behalf of Texas Tech University and Dr. German Nunez represented the TTU Health Sciences Center. |

The Julio Llanas family received the Distinguished Alumni Family Award.
|
|
The Julio Llanas Family was honored as the inaugural Distinguished Alumni Family (families with more than one generation of Texas Tech graduates). The Llanas family, Julio, Rosa, and their children Veronica and Joseph joined Emilio Abeyta on the stage for the special recognition. Ramon Abarca and Lisa Ramirez were honored as Distinguished Alumni. Dr. Bill Dean, Executive Vice President and CEO of the Texas Tech Alumni Association presented the awards to the recipients.

The graduates wore stoles sewn by the students from Cavazos Junior High School and received congratulatory letters written by the K-6 students from Ramirez Charter School. Students from Ramirez also presented a special skit entitled,"Ninos del Sol" and Father David Cruz prayed a special blessing over the graduates.
